An EMRS TGT Salary (Trained Graduate Teacher) is paid at Pay Level 7 of the 7th Central Pay Commission matrix: ₹44,900 starting basic, rising to ₹1,42,400. That basic is not what lands in your account. Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) and, as reported in recruitment summaries, a 10% special allowance are added, and a 10% NPS contribution is deducted.
Quick answer (DA at the notified 60%, new tax regime): EMRS TGT Salary
| Posting | Gross per month | In-hand per month |
|---|---|---|
| Z-class / “other places” (typical rural EMRS), with 10% special allowance | ₹83,700 | ≈ ₹76,500 |
| Same posting, without the special allowance | ₹79,210 | ≈ ₹72,000 |
| X-class city (e.g. Delhi), with special allowance | ₹95,560 | ≈ ₹88,400 |
Many pages quote ₹50,000–₹65,000 as the in-hand figure. Those numbers do not reconcile with the component rules shown below, which is why this guide shows the arithmetic so you can check your own slip.
EMRS TGT Salary Structure
The Eklavya Model Residential Schools are run by the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Pay levels in the ESSE-2025 recruitment (advertisement NESTS/Adv/2025/01) follow the 7th CPC pay matrix. Summaries of the notification list these levels:
| Post | Pay Level | Pay scale (₹) |
|---|---|---|
| Principal | 12 | 78,800 – 2,09,200 |
| PGT | 8 | 47,600 – 1,51,100 |
| TGT (main subjects, third language) and Librarian | 7 | 44,900 – 1,42,400 |
| TGT Art / Music / PET, Accountant | 6 | 35,400 – 1,12,400 |
| Hostel Warden, Staff Nurse | 5 | 29,200 – 92,300 |
Two things worth knowing:
- Do not add “grade pay” to ₹44,900. Some pages list a grade pay of ₹4,600 and a pay band (PB-2). That is the older 6th CPC notation. Under the 7th CPC the pay level cell, ₹44,900, already replaces basic plus grade pay.
- “TGT” is not one pay level. TGTs in Art, Music and PET sit at Level 6 (₹35,400 start). This article covers the Level 7 TGT.
EMRS TGT Salary components
| Component | How it is calculated | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Basic pay | Pay Level 7 cell, ₹44,900 at entry | Rises by an annual increment of about 3% under the 7th CPC rule |
| Dearness Allowance | % of basic pay | 60% from 1 Jan 2026 (Cabinet decision, April 2026) |
| House Rent Allowance | % of basic pay only | 30% X, 20% Y, 10% Z cities (DA above 50%) |
| Transport Allowance | Level 3–8: ₹3,600 (higher-TPTA cities) or ₹1,800 elsewhere, plus DA on it | DA is paid on TA, but not on HRA |
| Special allowance | Reported as 10% of basic for residential schools | See the caveat below |
| NPS (employee) | 10% of basic + DA | Deduction |
| NPS (government) | 14% of basic + DA | Paid into your PRAN account, not a deduction and not in your gross |
Caveat on the 10% special allowance. Several recruitment summaries describe the ESSE-2025 pay as “7th CPC plus 10% special allowance for residential schools”. I could not read the text of the official Information Bulletin PDF on nests.tribal.gov.in, so I could not confirm the exact wording, conditions, or whether DA is calculated on it. This guide therefore shows results both with and without it. Check your appointment order.

EMRS TGT Salary per Month in Hand: Worked Calculation
Formula
Gross = Basic + DA + HRA + (TA + DA on TA) + Special allowance (if applicable)
In-hand = Gross − NPS (10% of Basic + DA) − income tax − professional tax (state-dependent)
Example: Z-class posting, DA 60%, with special allowance
| Item | Working | ₹ per month |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Level 7 entry | 44,900 |
| DA | 60% × 44,900 | 26,940 |
| HRA | 10% × 44,900 | 4,490 |
| TA | Other places | 1,800 |
| DA on TA | 60% × 1,800 | 1,080 |
| Special allowance | 10% × 44,900 | 4,490 |
| Gross | 83,700 | |
| NPS (employee) | 10% × (44,900 + 26,940) | −7,184 |
| In-hand | ≈ 76,516 |
For reference, the government’s own 14% NPS contribution here is about ₹10,058 a month. It builds your pension corpus and does not appear in your take-home.
In-hand by city class and DA rate
| Scenario | Gross | NPS | In-hand |
|---|---|---|---|
| DA 60%, X city, with special allowance | 95,560 | 7,184 | 88,376 |
| DA 60%, X city, without | 91,070 | 7,184 | 83,886 |
| DA 60%, Y city, with | 88,190 | 7,184 | 81,006 |
| DA 60%, Y city, without | 83,700 | 7,184 | 76,516 |
| DA 60%, Z, with | 83,700 | 7,184 | 76,516 |
| DA 60%, Z, without | 79,210 | 7,184 | 72,026 |
| DA 63%, Z, with (expected) | 85,101 | 7,319 | 77,782 |
| DA 63%, X city, with (expected) | 97,015 | 7,319 | 89,696 |
X-city TA uses the higher ₹3,600 rate. Y and Z use ₹1,800 here, because Y cities are not automatically on the higher-TPTA list; the TA list is separate from the HRA classification. Professional tax, which some states levy, is not deducted in these figures.
Which city class applies to you?
HRA class comes from the Department of Expenditure’s list of X, Y and Z cities. EMRS were planned for blocks with large tribal populations, and the Telangana EMRS society describes them as rural residential schools, so the Z-class (10%) and “other places” TA rate are the likely case for most postings. Check the list for your actual town.
Campus housing can change HRA. Under central rules, government servants living in subsidised hostels run by autonomous organisations are not entitled to HRA. If you are allotted staff quarters, confirm in writing whether HRA continues.

Is the EMRS TGT Salary Taxable?
Under the default new regime for FY 2026-27, the standard deduction is ₹75,000 and the Section 87A rebate makes tax nil up to ₹12 lakh of taxable income (Budget 2026 left slabs unchanged).
- Z-class example: annual gross ≈ ₹10.04 lakh, so taxable income ≈ ₹9.29 lakh, which is under the limit.
- X-class example: annual gross ≈ ₹11.47 lakh, so taxable income ≈ ₹10.72 lakh, also under the limit.
So an entry-level TGT typically sees no income tax deducted at current rates. Arrears (for example the July 2026 DA arrears), other income or the old regime can change this, so treat it as an estimate and check your payroll’s TDS declaration.
EMRS TGT Salary Slip and Salary Slip PDF
A monthly slip lists earnings (Basic, DA, HRA, TA, DA on TA, any special allowance) and deductions (NPS Tier-I, income tax, professional tax where applicable). Here is an illustrative layout using the Z-class example above. It is not an official NESTS document.
| Earnings | ₹ | Deductions | ₹ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 44,900 | NPS (10%) | 7,184 |
| DA (60%) | 26,940 | Income tax (TDS) | 0 |
| HRA | 4,490 | Professional tax | state-wise |
| TA | 1,800 | ||
| DA on TA | 1,080 | ||
| Special allowance | 4,490 | ||
| Gross | 83,700 | Net | ≈ 76,516 |
I found no official public sample slip or download portal for EMRS TGT Salary slips on the NESTS site, so be wary of any website offering a “salary slip PDF” generator or template as official. NESTS also maintains a Fake Alerts page and has warned about fake notices in circulation. Get your real slip from your school or NESTS payroll.
Five-point slip check
- DA shows 60% from January 2026 (63% only after the Cabinet order and arrears).
- HRA percentage matches your city class.
- TA is ₹1,800 or ₹3,600 plus DA, not a flat figure.
- NPS equals 10% of basic plus DA (₹7,184 at entry with DA 60%).
- Any special allowance matches your appointment order.
Salary Growth: Increments and the Pay Matrix In EMRS TGT Salary
Under the 7th CPC, basic pay rises roughly 3% a year, rounded to the next cell in the matrix. Applying that rule to the Level 7 entry cell gives these approximate cells (derived, so check against the official matrix):
| Increments earned | Basic (₹) | Basic + DA at 60% (₹) |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 44,900 | 71,840 |
| 2 | 47,600 | 76,160 |
| 5 | 52,000 | 83,200 |
| 10 | 60,400 | 96,640 |
| 15 | 70,000 | 112,000 |
| 20 | 81,200 | 129,920 |
The ₹1,42,400 ceiling is a long-career figure, not a typical one. Promotion to PGT starts at Level 8 (₹47,600). Whether NESTS applies the central MACP scheme to EMRS staff is something to confirm in your service rules.
EMRS TGT Salary 2023, 2025 and 2026: What Actually Changed
The pay level did not change. The ₹44,900 basic is the same in the 2023 and 2025 recruitments. What moved is DA, and in 2024, HRA.
| DA effective | DA rate | DA on ₹44,900 (₹/month) |
|---|---|---|
| Jan 2023 | 42% | 18,858 |
| Jul 2023 | 46% | 20,654 |
| Jan 2024 | 50% | 22,450 |
| Jul 2024 | 53% | 23,797 |
| Jan 2025 | 55% | 24,695 |
| Jul 2025 | 58% | 26,042 |
| Jan 2026 | 60% | 26,940 |
| Jul 2026 (expected, not yet notified) | 63% | 28,287 |
DA crossing 50% from January 2024 also lifted HRA from 27/18/9% to 30/20/10%. So the 2023 slip had a lower DA and lower HRA than today’s. (Rates before July 2025 are from the standard Department of Expenditure revisions; verify against the original orders if you need them for an official purpose.)
Where the July 2026 DA stands
DA is revised for January and July each year. Price-index data supports a 3-point rise to 63% from 1 July 2026, but at the time of writing I could not find the Union Cabinet order. Until it is notified, your slip should show 60%; the extra DA is later paid as arrears.

EMRS TGT Salary After 8th Pay Commission
- The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted on 3 November 2025 with an 18-month mandate, so its report is due around May 2027.
- The Finance Ministry told Parliament on 28 July 2026 that the commission is not required to report progress while it works.
- As of October 2026 there is no official fitment factor, revised matrix or confirmed implementation date. The government has said the date will be decided by it; the October 2025 Cabinet note had said recommendations would normally be expected to apply from 1 January 2026.
- The 7th CPC used a fitment factor of 2.57.
New basic is roughly old basic multiplied by the fitment factor. For illustration only, and not a forecast:
| Assumed fitment factor | New entry basic (₹44,900 × factor) |
|---|---|
| 1.8 | 80,820 |
| 2.0 | 89,800 |
| 2.57 (the 7th CPC value) | 115,393 |
Two open points: how DA is treated in the new structure is undecided, and EMRS pay follows the central matrix by NESTS adoption, so confirm with NESTS or the Ministry of Tribal Affairs once the commission reports. Until the government accepts a report, DA continues under the 7th CPC.
Common Mistakes With EMRS TGT Salary
- Adding grade pay (₹4,600) to basic. The Level 7 cell already includes it.
- Treating ₹1,42,400 as the EMRS TGT Salary. It is the top of the scale.
- Quoting 63% DA as current. It is expected, not notified.
- Ignoring city class. HRA and TA can change take-home by ₹10,000 a month between X and Z postings.
- Counting the government’s 14% NPS share as take-home.
- Assuming every EMRS employee has the same terms. This guide covers NESTS-recruited (ESSE) TGTs. Staff hired through state EMRS societies or on contract may have different pay, so check your offer letter.
FAQs About EMRS TGT Salary
Do EMRS TGTs get the old pension?
Recruitment summaries say staff are enrolled in the National Pension System. With NPS you contribute 10% of basic plus DA and the government adds 14%. Confirm with your appointment order.
Does the basic salary differ by state?
No. Basic is the Level 7 cell nationwide. State-to-state differences come from HRA class, TA class and professional tax.
When will the DA hike to 63% appear on my slip?
After the Union Cabinet approves it and the Department of Expenditure issues the order. It applies from 1 July 2026 and is paid with arrears.
How does EMRS TGT Salary compare with PGT?
A PGT starts at Level 8 (₹47,600), about ₹2,700 a month more in basic, before DA and allowances.
